Sonic Unit Capabilities
  • All material is 100% Ultrasonically tested as per DOT-3AL, PARA 178.46-5e
  • Two probes are used. One probe makes contact with the billet on the bottom and the other makes contact at the side, 90 degrees from the first probe.
  • Each probe has its own sonic unit with a readout screen.
  • The X scale on the readout represents distance starting at the entry surface, represented by 0. The back reflection occurs at the distance equal to the thickness of the billet.
  • The Y scale represents the amplitude of the defect detected.
  • The reject zone is set up to stop the unit anytime a reject is detected with an amplitude exceeding a 5/64" diameter axial hole and at a location that is approximately within the center 60% of the scanning distance.
